Thrill the World Los Angeles at the Fairplex in Pomona

BY TONY – OCTOBER 14, 2010

Thrill the World Los Angeles is pleased to announce that this year’s Thrill Day event will take place at the Fairplex in Pomona!

We are very excited for this great opportunity to have our event at the Fairplex.  We want to do more than just dance Thriller.  This year we want to make it a fun day for all, with festivities, entertainment, last-minute dance lessons, and more space to bring in more dancers and non-dancers of all ages to make this year more memorable! There will be lots of food, KIIS FM, prizes, games, special performances and so much more.

Additionally, in honor of Thrill the World Los Angeles, Fairplex’ Halloween attraction Nightmare is opening one hour early and offering a $5 discount to everyone in attendance!  Click here to download the coupon.  And here’s one more tidbit just for all our Thriller dancers:  You can stay in costume while going through the mazes! This is only for you all and only for Saturday.  So keep the fun going at night by staying after our event and enjoy Fairplex’ five terrifying mazes!

We will also be raising funds for The Learning Centers at Fairplex, a vast array of educational programs focused on bettering our community.  Read more about them at www.TLCfairplex.org.

The Fairplex is home to hundreds of events each year, including the LA County Fair.  TTWLA was invited to the fair on October 3rd to participate in the parade dressed as zombies, scaring visitors and dancing on the grounds.  Now, on October 23rd, our hordes of zombies will gather in large numbers at the Fairplex and dance in our attempt to make history once again.

This will be TTWLA’s third year in participating with Thrill the World in a worldwide attempt to break the world record for the largest simultaneous dance in multiple locations with Michael Jackson’s Thriller.  In 2008, 114 people danced at the Hollywood & Highland in Los Angeles, helping Thrill the World break the previous world record with the Record Holders Republic for the “Largest Simultaneous Thriller Dance” (multiple locations) with 4,179 people in 72 cities from 10 countries doing the same dance.  We did it again in 2009 when over 2,000 zombies took over LA Live, contributing to Thrill the World’s 22,596 people dancing in 264 cities from 33 countries, setting the record again with the Record Holders Republic.

See the videos of Thrill Day from the last two years in our 2008 Gallery and 2009 Gallery pages.

Are you ready to thrill the world this year at the Fairplex?  Get your dancing shoes and come out to one (or more) of our lessons this week!  Bring your family, your friends, your coworkers, your boss, your classmates, even your entire school!  Also, if you haven’t registered for Thrill Day yet, now’s a perfect time to do so!  And it’s FREE!

And for those that want to help we are still accepting volunteers!  Read more info in our article for volunteers.

The LA Zombies will be doing a Flash Mob style performance at the Showcase Regent Theater sometime during the day!

A Flash Mob (or “flashmob”) is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual act for a brief time and then disperse as if nothing happened. The term flash mob is generally applied only to gatherings organized via telecommunications, social media, or viral emails.

The Flash Mob dances will be a mash up of four (4) of Michael Jackson’s best hit songs: “Scream”, “Smooth Criminal”, “Dangerous” and “Remember the Time.”

The dedicated LA Zombies have been holding semi-private practices between Los Angeles and Long Beach for the last month in preparation for this event. There will be at least 100 Michael Jackson fans that will be performing for the public.

This MJ Birthday Tribute Flash Mob is organized by Veteran Zombies: Ahrha Ko, Elena Manzanares, Gilbert Aquino, Mark Calub, Monica Garay, Tonay Queen, and Tony Velasco.

Showcase Regent Theater – is located in Hollywood right near the renowned Pink’s hot dog stand on La Brea and Melrose. This classic Art-Deco style theater has been entertaining Los Angeles residents for over 60 years. It now serves as one of the city’s premier theater rental spaces for private showings and events. Accordingly, the theater will be premiering the Michael Jackson fan documentary “The Way He Makes Them Feel” on Michael Jackson’s Birthday, August 29, 2010. The event is expected to draw in thousands of Michael Jackson fans and enthusiasts. More information can be found at: http://www.hisfans.com/.

Michael Bearden, Musical Director of This Is It, Will Perform His New Song “One Last Goodbye” and be Filmed by The Way He Makes Them Feel Filmmaker, Todd Lampe

Los Angeles, CA – Michael Bearden, the Music Director and close friend of the late King of Pop Michael Jacksonscored the movie “This Is It” has composed and produced a new profound song titled “One Last Goodbye,” a musical tribute in honor of Michael Jackson’s birthday on August 29th, which will be available on iTunes. In mirroring the philanthropy efforts of his late friend Michael Jackson, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the MuisCares Foundation®, a nonprofit organization founded in 1989 by The Recording Academy® that provides emergency health and human services to music people in need.

“One Last Goodbye” will be unveiled to the ‘King of Pop” fans through Michael Bearden’s facebook fan page. In addition, Michael Bearden will perform a live version of the song on UStream and engage fans by answering questions about his work with the late pop icon.

“After Michael passed, I started receiving countless emails on my personal facebook page from Michael Jackson fans who wanted to learn about my untold experiences working so closely with the “King of Pop.” Ultimately I think fans really just wanted to connect with anyone who was directly linked to Michael Jackson. From this, I was inspired to launch and design my fan page as a place or refuge for fans to continue to talk and fellowship with each other keeping the spirit of Michael Jackson alive” said Michael Bearden.

In regards to composing a tribute song honoring the birthday of Michael Jackson “I wanted to write something special to commemorate Michael’s memory since his passing and recently created the most perfect song titled “One Last Goodbye.” It is a genuine expression that best represents how I feel about my friend and colleague. The song pulls at your heart strings and immediately makes you feel loss and love at the same time. I believe it upholds the strong characteristics of MJ but also has elements that represent some of the daunting times he had to experience. Those particular times are a reminder of how we need to treat and embrace one another now and in the future and I believe that was one of Michael’s greatest missions” said Bearden.
