MICHAEL JACKSON FANS PLAN THEIR OWN TRIBUTES
IN CALIFORNIA AND INDIANA FOR HIS BIRTHDAY
Los Angeles, CA-August 22, 2011 While Michael Jackson’s family continues preparations for a tribute concert to the late superstar, fans are gearing up for their own way to honor the King of Pop on his upcoming birthday, August 29, 2011 in Los Angeles, California and in Portage, Indiana (just 15 minutes away from his birthplace of Gary, Indiana). The Way He Makes Them Feel: A Michael Jackson Fan Documentary, filmed by Joelle Arqueros, Todd Lampe and ErinRose Widner, will screen in Portage, Indiana at Portage 16 on Sunday, August 28 (11:59pm) and in Los Angeles at Downtown Independent (6:30pm) on Monday August 29, hosted by Film Courage. The documentary spotlights the deep impact Michael Jackson has made on his fans even after his passing. The film presentations will be preceded by live Michael Jackson-inspired performances, by his fans and some of the film’s stars.
Shortly after Michael Jackson unexpected death, there was an upsurge in the presence and voices of his fans that for years had been quiet. The Way he Makes Them Feel: A Michael Jackson Fan Documentary focuses on Michael Jackson’s fans worldwide, from all walks of life and backgrounds, amplifying how one man changed and affected the lives of so many in both gentle and dramatic ways, through his music and his life. The film also closely follows a select few: including Dan Seaton Brown, a renowned artist who recently sold his 144 square foot portrait of Michael Jackson (comprised entirely of soda cans) to Ripley’s Believe It or Not; and Trevor Jackson, who recently gained attention from the media and celebrities (including Rainn Wilson) for his own incredible Michael Jackson song and dance tribute that circulated on YouTube. The Way He Makes Them Feel premiered Sunday, August 29, 2010 at the Regent Showcase Theatre in Hollywood. The film was also presented at the LA Film + Music Weekend at Laemmle Music Hall on March 25, 2011.
Filmmaker, Todd Lampe, who is attending the screening in Portage, Indiana explains, “We are thrilled to be screening our film in Indiana, the home state of Michael Jackson. I am fortunate enough and excited to be attending this very special event, meeting admirers from all over, and honoring his legacy with the people who meant so much to him – his fans.”
Live performances inspired by Michael Jackson will also accompany the screenings, with auditions being held the week before the screenings in both Los Angeles and Portage. The screening in Portage Indiana, will be held on August 28th at the Portage 16 Imax, 6550 American Way, Portage, Indiana 46368. Live performances begin at 11pm, with the screening of the film beginning at 11:59 (one minute before Michael Jackson’s birthday). The screening in Los Angeles is hosted by Film Courage at the Downtown Independent, 251 S. Main Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012 on August 29, Michael Jackson’s birthday, 7:30pm-11:30pm. Live performances begin at 7:30pm. There will be a Q&A with co-producer/director Joelle Arqueros following the screening. For more information please visit hisfans.com or email pr@hisfans.com
